Found this while looking for My Citroen's blue W140. Old Mercs are tanks. Fact.

It's a corsa, you'd get that kind of damage at about a 3mph impact.

My dad bought himself a W123 after seeing a potentially horrific accident that his friend survived back in the mid 80s. The guy was in a 240D and was stopped in traffic behind a boxtruck on I-75 in Atlanta when a guy in another boxtruck slammed into his rear at high speed. The 240D was sandwiched between these two trucks but the guy was able to open his door and walk away because the passenger compartment wasn't compromised and even the front and rear glass was intact. My dad got a call telling him that his friend had been in an accident and that he needed to come to the scene of the accident. My dad said he was afraid that he had been called to identify his friend's body after seeing the crash from further away, but then saw his friend just chatting with the cops and he didn't need any medical attention at all.

My dad got in a similar fender-rip-open-like-a-sardine-can-bender between his Ford Landau and a Fiat Tipo, when the guy in the Tipo didn't signal that he was leaving the parallel parking lot and his car lost ALL of his left side, up to and including mirrors, while my dad's Landau didn't even get a scratch. The bumper on the Landau is 3/8" chromed steel, while the Fiat Tipo... is not. Notice how the bumpers in the Ford protrude ahead and sideways of the lights.

I remember seeing a Mercedes at the dealership back in the 1980s that had rolled 4.5 times. They rolled it upright and it was able to be driven to the dealers. Doors all worked fine, no glass breakage. I wouldn't want to try that in a 1980s Ford or GM product!

Geo Metro, Opel Corsa, Pontiac Firefly, Suzuki Swift. They all suffered from extreme rust in the front sub frame horns that doubled as A-arm mount points.

Well. I’m gonna say it. I’m surprised it wasn’t on I-85. That highway is the devil

Not quite. My brother got t boned in his ‘83 300D by a Dodge Intrepid and it folded in half. Any passenger would have been dead. The passenger door bent all the way to my bro’s arm.
